Hannah Rutten (New York Mills Girls' Basketball)

By Kyle Gylsen
New York Mills

The SportsCow.com Female Athlete of the Week is Hannah Rutten of the New York Mills girls' basketball team.

While 1,000 point scorers are becoming more common, Rutten achieved a milestone that very few players can claim when she scored her 2,000th point in a home game against Park Christian on Thursday, February 11.

Going into that game, Rutten needed 19 points to reach the mark and scored 24 to finish the night with 2,005 in her career.  She has added 29, 37 and 15 points in the three games since, giving her an unofficial total of 2,086 points.

Earlier in the season, Rutten became the fifth girls' player to go over 1,000 rebound milestone.  As of February 16, she had 1,227 boards, which is second in Eagles' girls' history to the 1,433 rebounds grabbed by Janet Karvonen.

Incidentally, by moving into the number two spot, Hannah bumped her mom, Dana Patsie, down to number three (1,202).

"Hannah has become a real floor leader, in practice and in the games," said New York Mills head coach Dave Paavola.  "Her knowledge of the game is one of the big reasons she is so successful."
